The Net Energy Metering (NEM 3.0) Rakyat initiative initially allocated 350 MW, which was fully subscribed by September 11, 2024. In response to strong demand, the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) announced an additional 50 MW quota on September 20, 2024. However, this quota was quickly exhausted by mid-November.
In a recent announcement on November 25, 2024, SEDA has further extended the NEM 3.0 program, adding another 50 MW quota for NEM Rakyat. This extension will be valid until June 30, 2025, or until the quota is fully utilized, whichever comes first.
This marks the fourth extension of the NEM 3.0 program since its inception in 2021, highlighting the growing interest in solar energy among Malaysian households.
